Shoot First!

A game to fight the bad guys

Shoot First! is a solo role-playing game. All you need to play is a pencil, d6 and square paper. In Shoot First! you take on the role of a leader of special forces assault units. Your mission is to fight terrorists, drug traffickers, and dangerous criminals who threaten world peace or the interests of your nation. You've undoubtedly seen television series like Seal Commando or films like Delta Force. And of course, there's Seven Days in Entebbe, when Israeli special forces freed over one hundred hostages held by Palestinian terrorists. Other television series such as Narcos have chronicled the fight against drug trafficking by the DEA and American special forces. But let's not forget the Italians or the French, who have also carried out dangerous missions in the Middle East or Africa to recover hostages or control territory.

In Shoot First!, you'll learn how to lead a commando of up to four specialists with a few simple rules. You'll quickly and without hesitation eliminate enemies and complete the mission. The rules introduce the principles of the game and three introductory missions. The expansions will allow you to expand the rules, introduce other increasingly complex missions, as well as campaigns and special rules to face the new challenges of space or the ocean floor.

What does solo role-playing mean?

A role-playing game is a game where a referee or game master leads a group of players on an adventure, often written by himself. Players each play a character, such as a warrior or a wizard, or an investigator or a soldier. Furthermore, to play you don't use a board, like board games, but with a sheet of paper and a pencil where the paths and maps are drawn, while the character or characters are represented by printed cards with some characteristics to describe them, such as strength or dexterity. In solo role-playing games, a single player, using predefined rules, plays alone the adventure that in other role-playing games would be experienced in a group. The solo role-playing game is much more similar to a console or computer game like the classic Eyes of the Beholder , where the player led four heroes inside a dungeon or in our case Call of Duty.

Use your imagination and creativity to make your game as fascinating as possible. You can also play by following the instructions, but don't be afraid to get creative and design new methods. A mission can last 15-20 minutes or, thanks to your creativity, even 30 or more minutes.

How does it work Shoot First! ?

Your team of specialists consists of a maximum of four members. For each of them the number of D6s to be rolled to pass a test, such as shooting, searching for clues or other actions you want to perform are indicated. During a mission your team will, for example, explore an enemy camp, kill enemies and have to search for information that may also influence a later mission. In addition, with the advanced rules you will be able to increase the experience of your characters by improving their skills. Finally, you will be able, as in a video game, to decide the difficulty of the adventure (from 'Mama help!' to 'I sew my own wounds') and thus set the fun level of your game.

How does it play a mission?

Each mission begins with a place where your team is moved to (helicopter, boat...) and through a series of "stages" (tents, rooms, caves...) accomplishes the mission (e.g., rescuing hostages). But even when you have achieved the goal, you must return home. And even well-organized plans may not end well. You will have to reach the extraction point, but the enemy is chasing you and you may not necessarily make it home--in fact, like an action movie, you may even have to find another exfiltration point or fail.

What do I need to play the game?
You only need:

  • a pencil
  • grid paper
  • one or two D6s
